רבינו הגאון רבי משה שפירא זצ"ל, נולד בשנת תרצ"ה בפתח תקווה ונפטר בעשרה בטבת תשע"ז בירושלים.
הרב זצ"ל נודע כתלמיד חכם בעל שיעור קומה בלתי מצוי, וכאחד מגדולי בעלי המחשבה שבדור. והתפרסם בזכות השיעורים העמוקים, הבהירים והמרוממים שמסר בכל חלקי התורה.
שומעי שיעורי הרב זצ"ל התקבצו ובאו מבתי מדרש רבים ומגוונים. מגדולי תלמידי החכמים ועד חדשים שבאו מקרוב. שיעורי הרב התפרסמו ברחבי העולם, ואף תורגמו על ידי תלמידיו לשפות שונות. לכל שומעיהם מהווים הם בסיס ועוגן לרוממות ולעלייה בתורה וביראת שמים.
הרב זצ"ל לא קבע את משכנו בבית מדרש אחד כמקובל, אלא מכתת היה את רגליו במשך עשרות שנים ממקום למקום בארץ ובחו"ל למסור וללמד תורה לאלפי התלמידים שהתקבצו ובאו לקבל תורה מפיו.

Harav Hagaon Rav Moshe Shapira zatzal was born in Petach Tikva, Israel on the 25th of Iyar 5695 (1935) and was niftar in Yerushalayim, Israel on Asarah Beteves 5777 (2017).
Rav Shapira zatzal was renowned as a talmid chacham of uncommon stature and was widely recognized as one of the greatest masters of machshava, Jewish thought, in his generation. His fame spread on account of the extraordinarily deep, clear and uplifting shiurim which he regularly delivered in all areas of Torah.
The talmidim who attended Rav Shapira zatzal’s shiurim were numerous and diverse. They ranged from great talmidei chachamim to recent baalei teshuva. Rav Shapira’s shiurim became famous throughout the world and were translated by his talmidim into several different languages. For all those who learned from him, Rav Shapira’s words became the basis and anchor for growth and ascent in Torah and Yiras Shomayim.
Rav Shapira zatzal didn’t situate himself in a single beis medrash. Instead, over a period spanning several decades, he travelled from place to place both in Eretz Yisroel and in the diaspora to teach the thousands of talmidim who gathered to hear Torah from his mouth.
